The head office for Lowe Corporation is located within an industrial area of Hastings adjacent to the Graeme Lowe Hastings Tannery. The sites’ outlook is across paddocks that are occasionally used for grazing. The client specifically did not want a ‘corporate’ building but one where visitors, office staff and tannery staff felt comfortable visiting and working in.
The initial concept was for a ‘refined woolshed’, a building that could sit comfortably within its industrial / rural context. The form is purposefully kept simple with the entry dividing the public and private functions of the office. The congregating spaces, the board room and staff room, spill outside to exterior spaces defined by low timber platforms resting in, and defined by, the landscape.
