The Opera bar was located in the heart of Wellington's entertainment precinct on the corner of Blair Street and Courtenay Place.
The original historic building was stripped back, seismically strengthened and a large section of the first floor cut away to create a spectacular double height space showcasing an elegant curved staircase. A new upper level balcony incorporating a stylised staff and clef motif was also added at this time to the leading corner of the building. A collage of operatic imagery in the interior, combined with the drama of the double height space created an extravagant and opulent atmosphere. It has since been stripped out and refurbished into a new establishment but during its time it was a landmark destination that still lives in the memories of thousands of Wellingtonians.
