Fitting out a significant heritage building presented a dual obligation, both in meeting the brief requirements for a functioning supermarket as well as enriching a much loved public building.

The entrance off the Concourse is an unashamedly modern steel and glass box with a sense of craft and materials that evokes the spirit of the Railway. New entrances from the Ticket Hall re-establish original connections to spaces within the building and, together with the installation of the bronze-fronted coffee kiosk, the result has been the return of the buzz of activity to what had been a lifeless hall.

Within the store a feature has been made of the significant heritage items such as the terrazzo floors, bronze counter joinery and glazed roof lights. The result is a supermarket rich in colour, texture and surprise.
