Joel completed his Master of Architecture (Prof) in 2019 at Victoria University of Wellington. Interested in a range of radical ideas from figures such as Yona Friedman and Lebbeus Woods, Joel’s final year thesis explored alternative ways architecture can inhabit vertical spaces in the present age of globalism from an individual's point of view.

Apart from vertical architecture, Joel is also interested in sculptural structures and architecture that induces movement - such as in the works of Santiago Calatrava.

Outside of the office, he is an amateur photographer, gamer and the occasional sound technician.
