Naenae Pool & Fitness Centre

The design of the Naenae Pool and Fitness Centre is part of a wider rejuvenation project in Naenae - establishing culturally informed and community-involved transformations around the town centre for the benefit of locals and visitors. The design concept and building form were generated from early mana whenua engagement and reflect the cultural narrative specific to Naenae.

The pool project is a major focus for Hutt City Council and will return a significant asset to the community providing a birthday party room, outdoor space, a 50m Olympic pool, a leisure pool & children’s splash pool, 2 hydroslides and a fitness gym.

This facility has been designed as the first Greenstar 5 pool building in New Zealand which is a key aspect of the brief as part of Hutt City’s sustainability initiatives. This project will enliven Naenae shopping centre and contribute to the regional pool network. Some flexibility is provided for inputs from the local community.

The previous pool was demolished due to seismic safety concerns, but parts of the building and the community hall have been salvaged and will be reused in creative ways in the new design.

Naenae Pool is currently under construction, due to open late 2024.
